University of Heidelberg – Internationales Studienzentrum

The “Internationales Studienzentrum” is part of the University of Heidelberg. Its aim is to prepare students for studying at post-high school level by teaching them German and the specific knowledge required. German courses at the Studienkolleg are an excellent means to study abroad in Germany, learn German, and even to prepare to study in Germany.

The “Internationales Studienzentrum” …

  • offers basic and advanced courses on German language and culture,
  • offers the Obligatory Proficiency Examination (DSH) and courses that prepare students for this test,
  • provides relevant information about studying at Heidelberg or other German universities,
  • familiarizes students with German history and culture and informs them about the political and economic structures of Germany,
  • provides contacts with German and foreign students through cultural activities.

Participants in the courses of the ISZ are registered as students of Heidelberg University.

The “Internationales Studienzentrum” offers Special Courses in cooperation with the International Office of Heidelberg University, the German Academic Exchange Service, the Ministry of the Sciences, Research and the Arts of Baden-Württemberg and foreign universities.

German Courses at the Studienkolleg

Program Dates:

Winter Term – October to February

Summer Term – April to May

The preparation for the Assessment Examination (Feststellungsprüfung) consists of two semesters. The following subject specific core courses are offered:

Schwerpunktkurs G = Germanistik, humanities, arts (both as an alternative S-course) and related courses

Schwerpunktkurs M = medical and biological programs such as medicine, pharmacy, biology, agronomy, forestry science, sports science and related courses

Schwerpunktkurs S = sprachliche (außer Germanistik), geschichtswissenschaftliche (alternativ G-Kurs), rechtswissenschaftliche, gesellschaftswissenschaftliche (beide alternativ W-Kurs) und verwandte Studiengänge

Schwerpunktkurs T = technische, mathematische und naturwissenschaftliche Studiengänge wie Architektur, Bauingenieurwesen, Chemie, Chemieingenieurwesen, Diplom-Gewerbelehrer, Elektrotechnik, Geologie, Geoökologie, Informatik, Informationswirtschaft, Lebensmitteltechnologie, Maschinenbau, Mathematik, Mineralogie, Physik, technische Biologie, Technomathematik, Vermessungswesen, Volks- und Betriebswirtschaftslehre (technisch orientiert), Wirtschaftsmathematik, Wirtschaftsingenieurwesen, Wirtschaftsinformatik (alternativ W-Kurs) und verwandte Studiengänge

Schwerpunktkurs W = wirtschafts- und verwaltungswissenschaftliche Studiengänge wie Betriebswirtschaftslehre, Volkswirtschaftslehre, Wirtschaftspädagogik, Verwaltungswissenschaft (alternativ S-Kurs) und verwandte Studiengänge

 

Class Times and Location

Entrance examination before the semester begins

1st semester:
German 20 hours a week to prepare for the assessment test in German (DSH-mode) + about 10 hours a week teaching of subjects in each course

2nd semester:
Preparation of the assessment test in other subjects, about 30 hours per week in each course (G, M, S, T, W)

Lessons usually Mon to Fri 8.00 – 13.00 clock, sometimes in the afternoon

The courses take place in the Studienkolleg, Im Neuenheimer Feld 684.
